Can I use eDOL for probate purposes? Prices shown in eDOL are the official prices that are accepted by the UK Inland Revenue for probate purposes. Probate valuations should be taken on the date of death and you should use the eDOL of that date. If death should occur on a date that an eDOL is not published (a weekend or bank holiday) then the valuation should be calculated by reference to the eDOL for the business days before and after death and the lower of the two valuations should be submitted.
How do I calculate the probate valuation ? When you have obtained the appropriate eDOL(s), search for the security(ies) you require. Make a note of the figures shown in the quotation column and the highest and lowest figures in the business done column (refer to DOL user guide). Firstly, by reference to the quotation figures, calculate 25% of the difference between the two figures and add that onto the lower of the two figures. Secondly, calculate a price that is half way between the highest and lowest business done figures. Whichever of these two resultant figures is the lowest, multiply by the number of shares that are owned, to obtain the probate valuation for that investment.
Who should I contact for more details? For more information on eDOL, please contact eDOL sales in:
